I was delighted to be asked to provide the lighting design for the Future Christchurch Showcase, based in the Re:START Mall. The Showcase features interactive multi-media displays highlighting the recovery and rebuild progress throughout greater Christchurch.
The design had to complement the very latest in visual technology. To do this, I used lines of light. These are simple, but they fit perfectly with the high-tech theme.
The Showcase space is open, meaning the lighting would change with the daylight conditions. To counter this, I installed dimmers that could be adjusted to keep the lighting consistent through the day. This was important, particularly since visitors would be watching a television screen.
Also in the Container Mall I had the pleasure of lighting the Pods that were at the Ellerslie Flower Show. These are works of art, and include seating areas for the public. I used some very simple lighting effects to enhance these. I used LED downlights. It was also important that a warm colour temperature was used, to make the seating areas inviting for people to use.
Both of these projects used the latest LED technology.
